Why ‘Better Futures’? Suggests positivity/instils hope/ explicit expectation there should (generally) be growth in individuals’ confidence & abilities; Inclines person’s perspective towards looking forward to new possibilities - rather than preoccupation with the past; Helps tilt support worker positively in same direction; Also applicable in maintaining confidence & abilities at current levels: a sense that person worse-off in absence of the service.

Concluding Observations The BF approach is highly favoured by Individuals & staff. For both sets of people - it brings a greater: Joint alignment/clarity of purpose (more effective partnerships based on mutual understanding) Hope, optimism and improved morale Focus Efficiency of effort and administration (over 40% reduction in paperwork) For Individuals – it brings greater: Control over their own lives and how they want it to unfold (desired Outcomes, trajectory in life) For Staff – it brings greater: Job satisfaction - with a measurable sense of forward direction
For Providers/Managers – it brings greater clarity re patterns occurring within Services-delivery at different levels and across Services that can: Indicate changes that may be needed internally in service-delivery Indicate external factors that may be influencing positively or negatively on the service provided. It may suggest wider environmental/systems reviews – that derives from person-centred data.
Thoughts for the Future Continue development & increased use of the BF approach Undertake more counter-factual comparisons Undertake more longitudinal studies: continue isolating what works best in the BF approach and build on this Comparing it against controls/other approaches Reduce paperwork further: maximise Better Futures use on Tablets/iPad.
