Textual & Social Approaches • Questioning interpretation of texts • linguistics (semantics, historical linguistics) • hermeneutics • feminist, queer interpretation • Understanding different levels of text • Primary: Qur’an • Secondary: Hadith, Fiqh ( ijtihad) • Sharing lived experience • Advocacy with key authorities
HR-based Approach • “My interpretation against yours.” • Universal rights logical consequence in practice. E.g., extrajudicial execution.
