Do all dimensions of photographs show the same image By: Barbara Giesteira
Introduction You see images everyday, it is used a lot in the developed world. The probability is very high that you have never gone a day without seeing an image. You see image everyday like photographs, posters, book cover. But when you see a big picture and after you see the same picture but in a different dimension, are they going to look the same? In this PowerPoint you are going to find out if photographs look the same or different in all dimensions.
What are the different sizes of photographs we can get?? Photographs Sizes in inches: • 8x14 • 8x12 • 8x10 • 6x8 • 7x7 • 4x6
When do pictures look the same? The image will only look the same if the ratio of both pictures are the same. The ratio is when you divide the smaller number by the bigger number. So for example, if I had a picture that was 4x2 inches (the ratio is 0.5) and I wanted to make it bigger, I would have to find two numbers that if I divide them they would equal the same as 0.5. So one of the sizes that could be is 10x5 because if I divide 5 by 10 it would also equal 0.5. Which means the image would look the same.
Do all dimensions of photographs show the same image? • If we find the ratio of the dimensions of photographs this would be the answer: So this results shows us that all photographs dimensions are different from one another except for the sizes 4x6 and 8x12 because only this 2 sizes have the same ratio and when the ratios are the same they show the same image, but the rest of the sizes have different ratios and when the ratios are different they don’t show the same image. So for all photographs to show the same image, they all need to have the same ratio. So the only 2 photographs dimensions that shows the same image are the sizes 8x12 and 4x6 because they have the same ratio and the rest of the dimensions show different images because they have different ratios.
How do you know if an image looks the same? • To know if images looks the same, you would have to find the ratio of the pictures. And if the ratios are the same, it would mean that the image shows the same thing but if the ratios are different, the images wouldn’t look the same. So for example, if I had two pictures ,one was 10x5 and the other on was 12x7. If we divide 5 by 10 it equals 0.5 and if we divide 8 by 10 it would equal 0.8. So 0.5 and 0.8 are not the same, which means these pictures wouldn’t show the same image.
Photograph with the same ratio Picture 1 As you can see, picture 1 doesn’t look different from picture 2. That is because the ratios are the same. So if you divide 3 by 6, it will equal 0.5 and if you divide 4 by 2 it will also equal 0.5. So both of the picture’s ratio equals 0.5, which means both pictures shows the same image. So an image will only look the same if the ratios are the same. 3cm 6cm Picture 2 2cm 4cm
Photographs with different ratios • Photographs with different ratios wouldn’t look the same because photographs only show the same image if the ratios of the pictures are the same. Picture2 Picture 1 Picture 3 2.5cm 2.5cm 4.5cm 4cm 3.5cm As you can see the pictures don’t look the same at all. That is because the ratios are not the same. The ratio of picture 1 is 0.71. The ratio of picture 2 is 0.55. And the ratio for picture 3 is 0.75. So as the result showed, the ratio of these pictures are not the same, which makes the images be different from each other. So an image will always look the same if all ratios of corresponding angles are the same. 3cm
Explanation using squares d a e b The squares will be the same if: Now imagine these squares are photographs. Is the same thing!
Conclusion • So over all, the different dimensions of photographs you can get does not show the same image except for 2 dimensions and we can know that if we find out the ratio of the pictures. The pictures will only look the same if all the ratios are the same. So in this presentation you found out if all dimensions of photographs show the same image.
