  1. CCR task 2 How does out rpoduct engage with audiences?

  2. Real film audiences • - The Blair Witch Project  • - The Boy Nextdoor • - Don’t Breathe

  3. The Blair witch project  • This film was clearly made to appeal to a younger more teenage demographic, both genders arounf ages of 17-35. The reason being above the age of 27 is due to the content of the film. • There is a spesific niche around the film therefor had what thought to be a limited target audience as is was aimed at people with a thrill for scary real-life situations. (however the film ended up blowing up in the box office despite this). • Could aslo be aimed at an udeince interested in phsycological thrillersd as they are trying to navigate their way out of the forest and collect information on the witch. • They drew audeinces in by creating a marketing campaign around the film and making at appear as if it was a real.

  4. The Boy Nextdoor  • The bot nextdoor was made to appeal to a very spesifuc demographic being female latinas. This is due to Jennifer Lopez beig the leding actress. • Jennifer went on tour in miami (home to a large population of hispanic women) and talked aboiut the film and how it has a strong latina lead, she said that she didn’t think the films popularity would have been as large if the studio that had created it was smaller due to societys prejudice.

  5. Don’t Breathe  Don’t breathe is a horror. movie that targets an audeince of young people paticularily males and those from the ages of 13-24 due to the fact that they are more enhanced by thrilling experinces and get a better adrenaline rush. The cast of this production are on thr younger side natrually drawing in a younger demographic. Certain themes running through such as violence, millitary themes and a sense of male dominance natrually appeal to a male demographic.

  6. My target audience  • When creating thisopening sequence we really researched into other similar media products, mainly the three films I have resesrched above. These three films combined really capture the demographic that we were going for all rpound. • The adrenaline rush and the tensity that comes from don’t breathe is similar to what we tried to crate therefor our targhet audience would probably be from the age of about 14-45. • The reason for our age bracket being higher and reaching up to 45 is due to the physological element of the film, it’s a slowburn stalker movie and if we created the whole thing would require a lot of thinking and piecong together.

  7. How I engaged my audience  • When planning and coming up with ideas for the opening sequence we really wanted to make sure that it was exciting and people wnate to continue to wat h the film after viewing the opening serquence. • We started off by having the ending of the movie as the opening, this meant from the very start the audience are excited and kept oin tjuier toes really astablishing thr atmosphere for thr rest of the film

  8. Have we engaged audiences? • When gaining feedback from my classmates and peers after vthey watched our opening sequence this is some of the feedbackn we received... • - The music really heightened the tense atmosphere and kept me on the edge of my seat. • - The camera angles were unsettling and make me feel vunerable like I was in her shoes. • - The lighting used really added to the eerie atmosphere and make the scene more dramatic and intense. • - "I felt like you were teasing me, she kept looking out of the doorway and I knew something was coming but noththing did for a while, I still jumped even though I knew a jump scare was soon." • - I really sympathised with the character and felt as if I was in her shoesm, the camera angles make her seem so exposed and like she is being watched.

  9. Intro to distribution  • What is a distribution company?...a distribution company is responsible for the distribution of the film, this means deciding weather it will have a cinema release, go onto netflix or amazon prime or perhaps fewture at a film festival. • The distribution can make or break a production, it's so important for the film to reach a wide audience to ensure that profit is made and the process was worth it. • Some distributors such as walt disney have subsidaries, therefor this can effect their decisions when thinking about distruibuting a film as they are far more likely to use their child companies to display the production as it costs them no money and has a large profit. • On the opposite end of this there are limited distributors, meaning that some distribution cimpanies work only with certain forms of media such as DVDs or blu ray. These companies tend to be less successful.

  10. Distribution companies  Just like the opligopoly of film production companies, the media industury has many more oligopolys just like this one...including the top runners in distribution. Below are some of the main and most populour distribution platfroms and companies that are all household names, this shows the importance of the companies and how much money and recognition that they can make for a film.

  11. Marketing our film • When it comes to marketing a film you have to come up with a great marketing cmapaign to really engage audeinces and create interent, therefor I would take insperation from the blair witch project and create a cmpaign around our film that it’s a true story. • I would create posters that talk about a missing girl, this means that people are more likely to sympoathise and go online and look at any articles about her or try to find out more, as a society people tend to be nosey like that however in this case it would work to our advantage. • Along with this I would spark up a safety online campaign and really raise awareness for the dangers of talking to strangers online and this would also raise awarenss for the film.

  12. Distribution methods for our film. • Personally, I think that the most successful way of marketing a film is to have a cinema release, however if I were to be able to make this decision, I would need to be in a vertically intergrated company such as warner brothers or disney.  • Ideally a cinema release means that the film gets more recoignition. Whats more the cinema experience is far more immursive and trilling for an audience than watching something at home, especially when watching a thriller or horror. In the cinema there is potch black, wall to wall screen, complete silence, surround sound speakers and the overall ambiance is reflected from the film onto the audience. • This means that if people have this amazing expereince watching the film in the cinema they will have even better reviews of the film and the production comoany will end up making more money.
