System 95P, which eventually became Tropical Cyclone Daphne on April 1, dumped 600 mm (24 inches) of rain in some locations
In anticipation of Daphne’s arrival and the rain, more than 11,700 were evacuated from Viti Levu, the main island of The Fiji Islands, to evacuation centers
On April 3, Tropical Cyclone Daphne moved south toward New Zealand
INITIAL REPORTS • One-third of homes in Ba township without power • Clean drinking water a top priority • 2.000 Australian tourists stranded while on holiday in Nadi • 5 dead (Floods in the same region killed 11 in January)
INITIAL REPORTS • Roads were ripped away and inoperable • A school was under water • Hospital damaged • Crops were destroyed • 1-km long lines at service stations

INTERNATIONAL RELIEF ASSISTANCE • Australia pledged $ 1 million Australian dollars ($1.04 million USD). • New Zealand pledged $ 500,000 New Zealand dollars ($ 413,000 USD)
