WWII:Pearl Harbor in the pacific By: Paco
Today -I am a surviving sailor of the Pearl Harbor attack of December 7th, 1941. Since 1941, I, Thomas E. Manley still remember the day of the Pearl Harbor attack. It’s been 72 years since this tragic event and it feels as if it was only yesterday.
Pearl Harbor -It was just an early morning at Pearl Harbor and everyone was sleeping. At around 8:00 A.M. there was a surprise attack by the Japanese. Everyone was unprepared while they attacked their main target: the eight battleships that were anchored at Pearl Harbor.
What happened… -I remember asking my wife how she felt when she found out that I was in the wreckage. She said she was worried to death and did everything possible to find out if I was okay. When I asked her, she also showed me the headline of the newspaper. This war was bound to happen.
Artifacts -This bell was part of the U.S.S. Arizona which sank during the attack on Pearl Harbor. -After the Japanese attack, I had noticed the damaged vehicle containing innocent civilians. In this picture there are actually three bodies, 2 in the front and 1 in the back.
Document #1 -I had many friends back home, so with my spare time, I wrote to them letting them know how I was and what I was doing.
Document #2 -Years later after the attack on Peal Harbor, I had access to the past confidential document. This document could have saved over 2000 lives and fellow pals.
