Classroom Rules • Aside from the “standard classroom rules”, the “number one” rule of this class is that students enter the room without talking and immediately begin their “warm-up” assignment.
Cooperation and Work Habits • All rule violations are documented by the teacher and recorded onto the Jupiter Grades website for students and parents to see. A student’s cooperation grade is dependent upon the number of violations in each grading period. Please see my curriculum letter for details.
Positive Reinforcement • Commendation are recorded daily and uploaded to jupitergrades. Praise your child when they earn these! • Pod points (hazelnuts) tossed during lessons for attentive participation. • Raffle tickets awarded for various reasons. Redeemed for privileges and treats.
Work Habits A student’s work habits grade is based on the number of missed assignments. In order to earn an “E” (Excellent) grade, students should complete ALL assignments on time. Please see Mr. Kusumoto’s curriculum letter for details

Homework Homework is assigned on Tuesday and Thursday Homework counts for 20% of a students overall grade in Science 7 and Health 7 Time management is extremely critical this year. Students will have long term assignments that they need to budget their time for. Procrastinating will often lead to late-night stressful situations. Late work is not accepted unless it is due to absence.
Qwizdom Interactive Software Qwizdom is a student response system using a small radiofrequency remote (sometimes called “clickers”). Students are able to demonstrate comprehension by responding to questions electronically. This allows for instant feedback and checking for understanding by the teacher.
Science Notebook • The Science Notebook will be used throughout the year. It is composed of a set of graphic organizers, illustration pages and summarizations. Students will use this as a reference tool and is a large part of their overall grade. • Students are encouraged to purchase a hard plastic document case to keep their notebook in as they transport it from school to home. • Parents may pre-order them tonight for $2.00. An envelope will be provided for you.
Jupiter Grades- jupitergrades.com • Homework, Classwork and Test/Quizzes grades are posted online. Students and parents may access this site 24 hours a day. • Behavior marks are also recorded on this website. • Please request a weekly report emailed to you on Friday.

MESA – Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement (CSULB sponsored) • Students will participate in an engineering competition using critical and creative thinking to construct a popsicle stick bridge. The top 6 bridges will represent Dodson at the MESA competition at CSULB in March .
Do you need help raising your kid? So I’ve experienced much of what you’re dealing with. • I have four daughters ages 22, 20, and 18 year old twins. So, please don’t ask me for help. I have my own problems raising these four!
