Welcome to English III EOC class! Learn about bell ringers, restroom breaks, cell phone policy, food rules, supplies needed, tardies, absences, and behavior expectations. Follow guidelines for group work and projects.

Ms. lUNSFORD English III EOC, III, and IV Class Introduction & Procedures
WELCOME! Bell Ringers: • First five minutes of class • Must be completed in spiral notebook • Will be checked and graded randomly • Worth a daily grade • Will be a review of material already covered
Restroom & Water Breaks Restroom and Water breaks: • 3 passes per nine weeks • Unused passes worth 5 bonus points each added to lowest test grade at end of nine weeks • No replacement for lost, stolen, or donated passes • Not transferrable from semester 1 to 2 • Cannot leave first 15 minutes of class or last 10 minutes • You MUST have a hallway pass – no exceptions!
Backpacks Backpack procedure: • Take out materials needed for class that day and stack your backpacks neatly underneath your desk tableOR in the cradle underneath your desk. • No backpacks are allowed on the desk or next to the desk once class begins.
Cell Phone Policy • No electronics (cell phones, ipads, laptops, etc.) are allowed in your hands or on your desk without permission. • Unless told otherwise, make sure your electronics are powered off or silenced and kept in your backpack, purse, or pocket during class. • Instructor will let you know ahead of time what days phones will be allowed; otherwise, leave them out of sight! • Red card = no phones out; Green card = phones allowed
Cell Phone Policy Violation • 1st offense: Verbal warning • 2nd offense: Cell phone park until end of class • 3rd offense: Phone confiscated by instructor; office referral; phone will be returned by an administrator; parent will be notified. • Refusal to surrender electronic device: automatic office referral and parent notification
Food in Class • You may eat light snacks ONLY in class as long as you put your trash away and clean off your hands and desk before leaving. • Light snacks include the following: chips, cookies, candy, etc. • Beverages must be in original container – no containers from home are allowed out in class. • Use the classroom provided cleaner, wipes, and broom to clean up spills, crumbs, etc.
Last 10 minutes of Class • We will review content learned that day. • Review will last until bell rings. • Remain seated until the bell rings – no lining up at the door before bell rings. • The bell dismisses class.
Leaving Class • You cannot leave class the first 15 minutes or last 10 minutes of class, unless at the request of an administrator or counselor. • Leaving during class will not be allowed unless the following occurs: medical issue, request by an administrator or counselor, or extra-curricular activity. • For early release by a parent, the office must call the classroom and notify instructor before you will be released from class.
Supplies You will need the following supplies for this class: • Pen (blue or black ink only) • 3 or 5-subject spiral notebook • Two pocket folder or binder • College-ruled loose notebook paper • Composition book • BRING THESE MATERIALS EVERYDAY!
Tardies • You will be counted tardy if you’re not coming through the door when the bell rings – no exceptions! • At your third (3rd) tardy, you will be assigned a teacher detention. After six (6) tardiesin a particular class, you will not be eligible for exemption on the final exam for that class, regardless of attendance and grade in the class.
Absences • It’s your responsibility to check the make-up work folders for your class period and get assignment(s). • You will have up to two (2) complete days following your return to school to complete and submit make-up work. (Ex. You’re absent on a Tuesday and return the next day on Wednesday. Your make-up work is due the following Monday. ) • Place make-up work in folders located in the back of the room. Look for your class period.
Behavior Expectation • Please do what you are asked to do the first time without arguing or complaining. • Respect your teacher and classmates by your language, attitude, and/or behavior. • Do not write or draw in class provided textbooks nor touch anything on the walls, shelves, or whiteboards without permission. • Sleeping will not be allowed in class – if caught sleeping, you will be asked to stand up. • Comply with all rules and procedures.
Automatic Referrals • Cheating: Grade of 0 on the assignment • Skipping • Fighting/confrontational behavior • Profanity/racial slurs • Refusing to surrender electronic device • Vandalism/defacing school property • Refusal to attend teacher D-hall • Non-compliance/defiance • Bullying
Group Work/Projects • You will be asked to work in groups of two (2) to four (4) to complete group assignments or projects. • Each member of the group MUST be assigned a task. (ex. If a group of three is assigned a reading assignment, each person must read a portion of the text; if a writing assignment, one person would read, another write, and another edit. • If a group member is absent, the other members are expected to continue working on the project and that person is to be given a different task upon returning to contribute to the project. • If you know you’re going to be absent the next day, make sure your group members have your work!
Tutoring • Tutoring is offered by appointment only Monday through Friday. • If you schedule tutoring with your instructor, you are expected to show up or notify your instructor in a reasonable amount of time if you have to cancel. • Tutoring sessions are 30 minutes. • Morning tutoring time slot: 7:30 am to 8:00 am • Afternoon tutoring time slot: 4:15 pm to 4:45 pm
