  2. International: Assassination or hero? • Where? Islamabad, Pakistan Shooting in Islamabad market • When? • Assassination – Jan 4, 2011 • Court date – Jan 6, 2011 • Who? Muhammad Mumtaz Qadri (body guard) accused of assassinating Salmar Taseer (governor of Pakistan's Punjab province ) • Suspect finally appeared in court in Rawalpindi • several changes of venue

Several warnings about Qadri • Hero? • Extremist • Dawat – e- Islami (Sunni group) • Qadri immediately surrendered to authorities, • SalmanTaseer was killed for opposing Pakistan's blasphemy law • - “ If you insult any prophet, no matter who he is, that's a criminal offense, but certainly not punishable by death.” Why?

January 9, 2011 • Who? • Every person who “works” during a college sporting events • What? • Who should really be getting paid? • No one get’s paid • EXCEPT: • Broadcasters • Ones responsible for filling the stadium seats

Multibillion dollar industry? • Estimated 10.6 billion dollars per year • Not enough to pay athletes • National College Players Association • Protects the rights & interests of current & former athletes • Barganing tricks.. • Scholarships, Full Ride? • Only pays for education NOT day to day living • “salaries” • "They don't have to pay payroll taxes or workers' compensation for the athletes.” • Students can LOSE it • Will they EVER get the millions ? • Only 3 ways this could EVER happen • New Laws • New Courts • Universities doing it volunteery

Glady’s Scott & Jaimie Scott • What? • Sister’s = two life sentences • 1993 • Armed Robbery • Plead innocent • Released because of kidney transplant • Level 5 highest of renal failure • No tests have proven that sister’s are compatible • No longer a threat to society

  9. Kidney Dialysis • Suspend sentence due to cost • 3 times a week = $190,000 a year •  Gladys had previously offered to make the kidney donation • “I was willing to give it to her. He didn't even have to put that in the order 'cause I was going to do that anyway” • NAACP + other civil rights advocates were pleased with statement
