Dual Enrollment • Paperwork – Must complete for each semester • No summer classes • Can enroll for 4 dual enrollment classes each year • LSHS does not bus to MCC • Classes typically taken after school hours • Timeline: • April 2017 – Accepted or Not from ECM • May 2017 – Get paperwork and turn into MCC • July 2017 – Register for Class • August/September 2017 – Schedule adjustment
Dual Enrollment Eligibility Students must • Have an excellent attendance history • Have an excellent disciplinary record • Have taken either PAST, PLAN, ACT, SAT, MME, or MCC placement scores
Scheduling Guidelines • College courses must go beyond courses that LSHS offers - they cannot replace courses that LSHS offers. • Student must meet high school graduation requirements prior to or concurrent with LSHS. • LSHS permit students to schedule a maximum of 4 dual enrollment courses each year.
Receiving Credit • Students will receive .25 LSHS credit for every 1 credit taken at MCC. The letter grade also awarded at MCC will count toward the student’s grade point average at LSHS. • Example: ENGL 1180 (4 credits) at MCC will equate to 1.0 credit at LSHS • Scheduling at LSHS will usually be 1 LSHS class for 1 MCC class.
Paying for Courses • Lake Shore will pay for MCC course. • LSHS Dual Enrollment form needed. • Books are also covered. • Must pay for book first. • Original receipt and syllabus are needed for reimbursement. • If student fails course, family will be responsible for the cost of tuition of MCC Class
How to Enroll • Complete all parts of the Dual Enrollment Packet (LSHS and MCC applications) and return it to the LSHS Counseling Office. • Submit the MCC application NO LATER THAN June 1 (Fall semester) or November 1 (Winter semester).Earlier is better! • Take your placement exams at MCC and meet with a MCC counselor there to discuss your post-secondary goals. • Notify your high school counselor of dual enrollment registration so that your high school schedule can be altered. • Bring your syllabus and original receipt back to your high school counselor to get a refund on your books.
