National Committee on the Code • Making recommendations for the control of marketing of infant foods and related products • Reviewing and revising the Code of Ethics for the marketing of infant foods and related Products whenever necessary • Making recommendations for the formulation of policies for the protection, promotion and supporting breastfeeding
Vetting Committee • Vetting information materials and product labels related to designated products and complementary foods • Approving vetted information materials • Making recommendations on amendments of provisions pertaining to products under the scope of the Code, in the Food Act 1983 and Food Regulations 1985 • Such other duties as may deemed necessary by the National Committee on the Code
Disciplinary Committee • Coordinating investigations on specific complaints on alleged violations of the Code • Determining the validity of complaints • Reviewing monitoring reports from state committees on alleged violations • Taking appropriate disciplinary actions • Such other duties as may deemed necessary by the National Committee on the Code
State Committee of the Code • Forming a code monitoring team at state level • Monitoring activities with the aim of identifiying non-compliance to the Code at state and district level • Analyses monitoring reports received from the state code monitoring team • Investigating all complaints on possible violations of the Code • Submitting findings of investigations to the national Disciplinary Committee for appropriate action • Implementing appropriate actions as necessary
Appeal All appeal should be submitted to the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee within a period of 1 month from the date of notification. Thereafter, the decision of the Disciplinary Committee is final
Taken to Task Any one or a combination of the following penalties will be imposed depending on the seriousness and frequency of the violations of the Code
Penalty • Written warning with copies of the parent company and Chairman of the State Committee on the Code • Suspension of vetting of all new materials for one to two years • Notification to WHO and UNICEF • Notification to the International Association of Infant Food Manufacturers • Press Release • Black-listing such ommision of the relevent company from future tenders for a period of time
Non Compliance For non-compliance by health professionals and health personnel, written reprimand will be issued by the chairman of the Disciplinary Committee to the health professionals and health personnel concerned, with copies to the relevant professional or licensing bodies and their employers, if any.
