  1. Nematode diseases in potato (Root knot nematode and Golden nematode) Next

  2. Root knot nematode of potato (Meloidogynespp) End Previous Polyphagous root knot nematode occurs in warm areas. Damage is serious in sandy soils. Nematode attacks increase the incidence of bacterial wilt, fungal wilt and other pathogens. Next

  3. End Previous Symptoms: • Above ground symptoms are not specific. • Weak top growth and small chlorotic leaves that wilt quickly in warm weather. • Tubers also show galls, deformations. • Severe attack causes early death of infected plants. Next

  4. Golden nematode of potato (Globodera rostochiences) End Previous It causes serious damage to the potato crop. Its prevalence in India was reported during 1960s from Nilgiri hills Next

  5. End Previous Symptoms: Stunted growth and sickly appearance of the plants in patches. Loss in vigour of plants, similar to mineral deficiency. Roots show shallow bushy appearance. Underground symptoms include presence of galls on the roots and pimple like structures on tuber. Next

  6. Management (Golden nematode & Root Knot nematode disease) End Previous Infected plants should be uprooted and burnt as soon as detected in the field. Organic amendment of soil to reduce the nematode activity in the soil. Use resistant variety like Kufri Swarna. Deep ploughing during summer months. Crop potato with non host crop for at least two years. Strict quarantine measures particularly in Nilgiri hills for golden nematode disease.
