  2. About VietAbroader OUR MISSION VietAbroader’s mission is to empower Vietnamese youth to contribute to Vietnam’s sustainable development. We organize educational and professional programs to equip Vietnamese youth with knowledge, network, and support for their academic and personal achievements. We maintain a vibrant online community for members to actively share their experiences.   5. Why VietAbroaderCareer Conference (VACC) 2014? Currently there is a mismatch between the demand and supply of skilled labor in Vietnam. Unemployment rate among young people in Viet Nam is estimated at 5.95%, much lower than the global youth unemployment rate of 13.1%, but still more than 3 times the adult rate (ILO, Global Unemployment Trends 2014). • Demand • More international companies are entering the Vietnamese market, with an increasing amount of foreign investment (Vietnam’s FDI inflow was $22.35 billion in 2013, 35.9% higher than that in 2012). • These multi-national corporations, together with home-grown enterprises, are creating a great need for a more dynamic and skilled labor force (63% of Vietnamese college graduates do not meet standards of corporations- CafeBiz.vn). • Supply • More and more young local Vietnamese people are attending higher education: nearly 2.2 million in 2013 (increase from 1.7 million in 2009), creating a greater supply of skilled labor in Vietnam. • Many overseas Vietnamese, Vietnamese Americans, and foreigners are interested in learning more about career opportunities in Vietnam (40% of Vietnamese students go back from abroad to work in Vietnam- Dan Tri News). VietAbroaderCareer Conference (VACC) 2014 – Format • VACC 2014’s Proposed Format Is Focused and Efficient. • Pre-conference Training Workshops • Conducted either online or at sites • Equip students with knowledge and skills such as resume writing, interview, elevator pitch, and networking • 1 day Conference: • Keynote speech(es) by VA and sponsor companies’ representatives • Morning panels by selected guest speakers • Afternoon Career Fair • Participants: • 150-200 students and young professionals (Vietnamese local and overseas students, Vietnamese Americans) • Pre-screened via an application process • Selection criteria: interest in working in Vietnam; relevant work experience; academic excellence; standardized test scores • 20-25 companies and organizations VIETABROADERCAREER CONFERENCE 2014
