At the end of each day the evening manager at each store enters a code into the cash register, after which the cash register connects to the central computer at the central warehouse (the cash register is a peripheral device). The cash register sends the data on all inventory items sold during the day as well as the relevant data from credit card receipts and cash receipts. The central computer then computes the total deposit and prints a deposit slip on the printer at the store. The manager takes the deposit to the bank with the printed deposit slip. The central computer then records the cash receipt in a cash receipt file at the central warehouse. The computer then updates the inventory file for the sales at each store. The computer checks the inventory file to see if any items need to be purchased for inventory. For items which need to be purchased, the computer prints purchase order headers on the printer in the purchase manager’s office. 1 3 4 5 6 2 7 8 9 10
