Research Field water purification system (US8287729B2): Add waterand treatment agent, seal, and then shake vigorously and then dispense water from above sediment layer Purification pitcher (EP0613861A1): Pour water in pitcher through filter cartridge and pour out opening Water purification system (WO2000012435A1): Transportable , simple and can turn any water source into water meeting EPA standards.
Possible Solutions Sand in a coffee filter Layered coffee filters Cotton balls spread out to create filter Bottle filter with charcoal, sand, and boiling Charcoal sticks boiled, dried, and then placed in water Use a paint roller as a filter with coffee filter Use a piece of paper Carpet as filter Layer of earth Coffee filter, chlorine and iodine
Design Justification We picked the bottle filter with charcoal, sand and boiling because it is relatively inexpensive, filters well, doesn’t take very long to build, and filters quickly and easily.
Materials Unpurified Water Sand Mesh Net Coffee Filters Charcoal clump Water Bottle Cotton balls
Procedure Zeroed out the turbidity tester using distilled water. Measured the NTUs of unpurified/dirty water before filtering. Poured 100mL of the dirty water through the water purifying device into a cup. Repeat step 3 Water dripped into a vile after running through purification device for testing turbidity of “purified water.” Measured NTUs of water and recorded results.
