What programmes are there? • The IB Diploma: • Students must have 5 ‘C’ Grades at GCSE • open to all students who fulfill requirements • Applied Learning pathway (BTECs) • Students must have 5 Grades at GCSE • open to all students who fulfill requirements
The IB Diploma • Every student must study: • Group 1 – Language A • Group 2 – Second Language • Group 3 – Individuals and Societies • Group 4 – Sciences • Group 5 - Mathematics • Group 6: • either an Arts subject or an Elective
The IB Diploma • Three courses are studied at HIGHER level. • Three courses are studied at STANDARD level. • All students must complete CAS, Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay.
Subjects offered: Group 1 • Literature A HL+SL • Language and Literature A HL +SL (Both courses offered in English and Chinese) • Self Taught Literature A SL only (in the past students have studied French, Hindi, Korean, Japanese, German, Danish and many more)
Subjects offered: Group 2 • Language B – Mandarin, French, Spanish. HL+SL, Japanese SL • Ab initio languages – Japanese, Italian SL • The Language faculty will give you more information about which Chinese course is most suitable for you.
Subjects offered: Group 3 • Business and Management. HL+SL • Economics. HL+SL • Environmental systems and Societies. SL • Geography. HL+SL • History. HL+SL • Philosophy. HL+SL • Psychology. HL+SL
Subjects offered: Group 4 • Biology. HL+SL • Chemistry. HL+SL • Design Technology. HL+SL • Environmental systems and Societies. SL • Physics. HL+SL • Sports, Exercise and Health Science. SL
Subjects offered: Group 5 • Mathematics Studies SL • Mathematics SL. • Mathematics HL • The Mathematics faculty will give you more information about which course is most suitable for you • Computer Science (as an elective)
Subjects offered: Group 6 • Film. HL+SL • Music. HL+SL • Theatre Arts. HL+SL • Visual Arts. HL+SL • Students are expected to study a Group 6 subject unless they can justify that another subject from Groups 2, 3 or 4 is required for Higher Education
Applied learning pathway • Different learning style from the IB Diploma • Closely aligned to the world of work • No examinations – portfolio of work • Able to specialise • Available for all students – we will support students in choosing this pathway
BTECs • Internationally recognised qualification • Provides an alternative pathway to university • Recognised by universities and employers around the world
BTEC programme • We will be offering the BTEC Level 3 National extended diploma • This is equivalent to 3 A levels • Courses offered • Business and Product Design • Sport (Development, coaching and fitness) • Art and Design (Media) • Performing Arts
