School Counselor's Role • Write a counselor letter of recommendation • Send Transcripts, school report, and counselor letter of recommendation • Mid-Year Transcripts will be sent to all schools • Final transcript sent to school that student is attending • Be a resource for you… Communicate with your Counselor! • Private College Counseling Service - Keep us in the loop
College and Career Counselor • Application assistance • Admissions essay review - Visiting senior English classes • Interview assistance etc
What should already be completed... • Taken SAT/ACT • Building a College List • Turned in Student and Parent Brag sheet to counselor • Available in Naviance and RTNJ website • Asked 2 teachers for letters of recommendations • Fill out teacher form and give to teacher • Put the request for teacher letter of recommendation in Naviance (directions on transcript yellow form)
Student’s To Do List • Finalize your college list • Submit your Common, Coalition, or Institutionally based application • Don’t wait for the deadline! • Submit your test scores … ASAP! • ACT- ACTstudent.org • SAT- Collegeboard.org • Submit your yellow Request for Transcripts form to your School Counselor • Minimum of 2 weeks before deadline • Once you have applied o your school, a Request for Transcript form is required for each school to which you apply!
Student’s To Do List (continued) • Update your naviance account by moving the colleges you are applying to from “colleges I’m thinking about” to “colleges I’m applying to” • Complete FERPA (Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act) waiver on Common Application, which waives your rights to see the confidential information in your application provided by the school • Complete “Matching” in Naviance • Complete Essay and any Supplements needed

Financial Aid • FAFSA: Free Application For Student Aid • www.fafsa.gov • Available on October 1st • Parents and Students need to create individual FAFSA IDs • Presentation at RHS on September 24th • CSS Profile: • www.collegeboard.org • Available on October 1st • Required by almost 400 schools/programs, in addition to the FAFSA • Considered a required part of student’s application

Read Everything • Be sure to read everything prior to submission of all applications... each institution has different requirements • Test Optional (link in Naviance) • SRAR (Self Reporting Academic Record) • CSS Profiles (College Scholarship Services) • Additional Essays (supplemental section if applicable)
