Is Logic Really Necessary? • Some people get along very well without Logic. Some of them even become successful scientist, businessmen, and teachers without being skilled in Logic.
Yes…Let Me Tell You Why Logic is not necessary for thinking, but for thinking well.
Think of it like this… • Imagine a athlete. • They might be very good at a sport because of their natural abilities; however they will never improve if they do not exercise or train.
Logic is an exercise or training for the mind. • When someone who is not trained in Logic tries to talk about the highest levels of though, in Philosophy and Theology, a man who has not trained his mind by Logic is virtually hopeless.
This is the reason behind why there are so many disagreements among Philosophers. Many of them have not acquired the art of Logic. • Point: Logic is necessary if we are to reason well about difficult matters.
Is it Possible to Have an Art of Reasoning Well? • Logic is defined as the art of coming to know what you do not know through what you know. • Confusing right?
…Continued • How do we know that it is possible to improve our capacity for arriving at truth by means of Logic? • If we examine the kinds of mistakes we make when we reason about things, we realize that we generally tend to make the same kinds of mistakes. Since we make the same kinds of mistakes in our reasoning, there can be some definite and fixed procedure of looking for and avoiding these mistakes….LOGIC!
The art of Logic is both necessary and possible and the most useful and beneficial of all the arts.
