Welfare dependence • Personal freedom to the absolute – escape from the dependency • Not about one particular social class -> politicians are bad leaders • Living in areas of social deprivation -> but not always the ones who are rioting • The riots could be traced back to a lack of male role models

Consumerism • They see an opportunity to get what they never had • “these are shopping riots, characterised by their consumer choices”
Opportunism • Many blend in with the crowd • Many feel great when being in the groups • Many feel invulnerable
Technology and social network • The youngsters organise through the social networks • Gangs and hooligans have used the same methods through many years • Cell phones and social networks can be used to counter attack these organisations.
