Delia Denning • Delia Denning was born in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin on December 5, 1875. • At the age of 13 Delia Denning ran away from home and went to Milwaukee. • There she met Carl Akeley who was an experimenter of more realistic taxidermy mounting methods. • She married Carl in 1902.
Exploring Africa • Carl and Delia went to Africa to collect African Elephant samples to put on display at a museum. • Her husband discovered that she went to Africa without him. • Delia Akeley collected wildlife samples in Africa for the Brooklyn Museum in New York. • Delia Akeley led the first safari in Africa. Carl Akeley got attack by a bull elephant and broke his ribs and cut open his lungs.
Exploring Africa continued Delia Akeley donated a monkey. Delia Akeley brought a monkey to a zoo.
