  3. The Education of Delia • AB in English at Chestnut Hill College, Philadelphia • AM in English from University of Michigan Ann Arbor • Ph.D. in instructional systems design from Ohio State University • On faculty of College of Information Studies at University of Maryland

  4. Delia’s Career • On faculty of the College of Information Studies for 20 years, serving as coordinator of SLM Program for 8 of those years • In January 2008, joined Drexel University as a tenured associate professor and Director of the School Library Media Program, one of the original i-Schools • Has been a visiting professor at the Universithy of Hawaii, visiting scholar at University of Technology, Sydney, and a member of group to prepare NYC teachers to be SLMS’s.

Focus of Research • Primary research is how students use information as a tool for learning. • Has given over 100 presentations and served on editorial boards (School Library Media Research, Journal of Computing in Higher Education, etc.) • See her in action here: • http://www.ischool.drexel.edu/video#47

  6. Publications • Authored Information Power! • Learning in Information-Rich Environments: I-Learn and the Construction of Knowledge which is coming out January 2010 • Stimulated Recall and Mental Models: Tools for Teaching and Learning Computer Literacy

  7. Contributions • The I-LEARN model – Identify, Locate, Apply, Reflect, kNow – Describes the process of learning with information and provides a learning sequence that can be taught • Research into how students (especially teens) learn in an information rich environment in which they are creators as well as consumers • From 1993 through 1997 she was editor of the "Current Research" column for School Library Media Quarterly, and from 2002 through 2004 she was the chair of the editorial board of the Journal of Education for Library and Information Science. • From 1999 through 2003 she served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT), and she is currently AECT's special representative to the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.  She is also currently the Principal Investigator for a 3-year grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to recruit and train school library media specialists for the district of Columbia Public Schools.

Summary of Delia’s Work • Won several research awards (ALA's 1991 Carroll Reston Baber Research Grant) for research that attempts to integrate instructional systems design and information systems desig • Published in information studies journals (e.g., JASIS, School Library Media Quarterly, JELIS, College and Research Libraries, Library Trends); in journals related to technology and learning (e.g., ETR&D, Computers in the Humanities, Journals of Educational Multimedia and Hypermedia); and various other venues. • Presents findings all over the world (November in Italy!) and continues to research how students learn in info-overload
