Prostitution as a form of VAW legalisation and criminalisation of buyers, decriminalises women women as victims, not criminals prostitution and trafficking appear integrated in legislation, polices and programmes Zero tolerance for prostitution and trafficking adopted in law and in practice Increased public awareness of violation of women in prostitution Growth in intolerance for permission and promotion of men’s rights to buy and sexually exploit women Adult and child sexual exploitation linked Prostitution as a choice/work Legalisation/regulation and decriminalising of sex industry glamorisation of prostitution as a career choice for women Separation of prostitution and trafficking Major expansion of sex industry: legitimised increased acceptance that men have the right to buy girls and women buyers seen as consumers and clients, not exploiters and abusers False distinctions made between adult and child sexual exploitation Outcomes arising from taking positions on prostitution: form of violence or a choice/form of workLegal/Social/Political Outcomes
