The OTú Model – Technical Proficiency • What do we mean by Technical Proficiency? • Know how to do • Be able to perform the techniques of the game • Accurately • Consistently • At Match Tempo • Technical Proficiency is the ability to perform the underlying techniques of the game accurately, consistently and at match tempo. WHOLE – PART - WHOLE Whole Start with a game and observe the technical proficiency of the players. Part Spot it – Freeze it – Fix It (Individual/Group). Isolate the skill and work on it with either individuals or the entire group Whole Continue with the game, added conditions etc as required. Incentivise the use of the skill you have practiced in the game by having such things as skill points etc Games Based Coaching for Technical Proficiency (Structure)
Spot and Fix • All players need specific technical coaching at some time during their careers. • If you coach, then you should be able to ‘spot and fix’ faults in technique. • The secret lies in the phrase ‘Head, Hands, Hurley & Feet for Better Technique’. HEAD…is his/her head up as he/she kicks? This will cause the player to lean back and push the ball further to the right. HANDS…is he/she dropping the ball two-handed, cross-handed or is he/she holding the ball too far from his body? FEET….is his standing foot pointing nowhere near the target? Is he playing the ball off the outside of his/her boot? Presentation title in footer

Lets Go and Do It! • Take a 15 minute session with the group • Using the skill allocated and referring to your prompt card, familiarise yourself with the coaching points (the how to do the skill). • Follow the REDOAF / IDEA model and coach the skill to the group. • Set up an appropriate activity to allow participants to practice – coach the skill as they practice. • Develop two progressions with the group • Use STEP model to progress
