In 2003 in Europe • 470 – 862 MHz: UHF band (Ultra High Frequencies) • Historically: • Primary usage: analogue TV (Broadcasting Service - Terrestrial) • Secondary usage: Programme Making and Special Events (programmes for broadcast, the making of films, staging or performance of an entertainment, sporting or other public event) Source: DKE German Commission for Electrical and Information Technologies of DIN and VDE

  3. 2004: Going from Analogue to Digital Rationale: • Broadcasting will become a full part of modern integrated media systems (“all digital”) • New possibilities for value creation (mobile reception of TV) • More efficient use of scarce frequency resources (more channels) • Lower transmission cost Marc Le Devendec (ECO)
