Where • PK/FK must be taken at the mark or anywhere behind it on a line through the mark • If mark is within 5m of opp. Goal line the mark is 5m out from the goal line • If awarded ingoal the mark is in the field of play 5m from goal line in line with the infringement. Except mark!
How • Any player may take it, Punt, drop kick or place kick • Kicked with any part of the lower leg from knee to foot, excluding the knee and heel • Bouncing the ball on the knee doesn’t count • Must use the ball that was in play unless defective • Any infringement by kicking team results in a scrum at the mark. Opp. Throw in
Options • Can take a scrum instead • If kicking for goal must take within 1 min • If any other kick must be without undue delay • Must kick the ball a visible distance (ie leaves the hands or mark) • Can dropkick or punt for touch BUT not place kick
Options • Kicker can kick the ball in any direction • If taken in goal and the ball is made dead or touch in goal before the ball makes the goal line, scrum attackers ball 5m out • All the kickers team must be behind the ball when kicked (except placer)
Options • If kick taken too quickly that players of the kickers team are infront of the kick, they are not automatically penalised, but must keep retiring till onside • Can be put onside by normal 3 actions of a team mate • Cant be put onside by opposition • Any infringement by kicking team results in a scrum at the mark. Opp. Throw in
Goal • A penalty goal can be scored from a PK • If the kicker indicates to the referee the intention to kick at goal they must kick at goal • Once the intention to kick at goal is clear they cant change their mind • Opp must stand still with their hands by their sides from when the player approaches to kick until the ball is kicked
Goal • If the kicker hadn't indicated to kick but kicks a drop goal it stands • If the opposing team infringes while the kick is being taken and it is successful the goal stands • Must use an approved kicking tee
Scoring from a FK • Goal cant be scored • The team awarded the FK cannot score a dropped goal until after the ball next become dead, or until after an opp. has played/touched the ball or tackled the ball carrier. • This also applies to a scrum option taken instead
Opp at a PK • Must immediately run from the mark until they are at least 10m from the mark or the goal line if that is closer • Even if the PK is taken quickly the opp must keep running back until they are retired the necessary distance. They cant take part in the game until they have done so • Or a team mate that was 10m runs past them
Opp at PK • The opp. Team must not do anythin to delay/obstruct the kick/kicker. Must not intentionally take, throw or kick the ball out of reach of the kickers team. • Any infringement by the opp results in another PK 10m on from the previous one. • The kicker may choose to change the type of kick and choose to kick at goal • The second PK may not be taken until the referee has made the mark
Opp. At FK • Must run from mark • Must keep running even if taken quickly • Cant interfere • SAME AS PK
Opp. At FK • Once they have retired the necessary distance, players of the opposing team may charge and try to prevent the kick being taken. • They may charge the FK as soon as the kicker starts to approach to kick • If the opp team prevent the FK being taken the kick is disallowed. Play restarts with a scrum at the mark. The opposing team throw in
FK in goal • If a FK is taken in goal or awarded in goal and the opp players charge and prevent the kick being taken. The attackers ball 5m scrum • If a player charges down a free kick play continues • Any infringement by the opp team results in a new FK 10m on from the original. Any player may take that FK. • Cant be taken till the mark for the new FK has been made
Contrived infringements • If the referee believes that the kickers team has contrived an infringement by their opponents, play continues. • At a FK the kicker must not pretend to kick • As soon as the kicker makes a move to kick the opp may charge
