Masseter • Origin: Lower border of zygomatic arch • Insertion: Lateral surface of mandible • Motion: Elevates mandible • Uses: Chewing & Talking • Body Location: In the cheek of the face
Sternocleidomastoid • Origin: Anterior surface of sternum and upper surface of clavicle • Insertion: Mastoid process of temporal bone • Motion: Pulls head to one side, flexes neck or elevates sternum • Uses: Praying & looking up and down • Body Location: Neck
Buccinators • Origin: Outer surfaces of maxilla and mandible • Insertion: Orbicularis oris • Motion: Compresses cheeks inward as when blowing air • Uses: Whistling, blowing bubbles, & drinking from a straw • Body Location: Cheek of face in front of masseter
Arm Muscles • Biceps brachii • Triceps brachii • Brachioradialis
Biceps Brachii • Origin: Coracoid proccess and tubercle above glenoid cavity of scapula • Insertion: Radial tuberosity of radius • Motion: Flexes forearm at elbow and rotates hand laterally • Uses: Biceps curls & lifting back-pack • Body Location: Anterior side of upper arm
Triceps Brachii • Origin: Tubercle below glenoid cavity and lateral and medial surfaces of humerus • Insertion: Olecranon process of ulna • Motion: Extends forearm at elbow • Uses: Dips (exercise) & crab walk • Body Location: Posterior side of upper arm
Brachioradialis • Origin: Distal lateral end of humerus • Insertion: Lateral surface of radius above styloid process • Motion: Flexes forearm at elbow • Uses: Eat & brush hair • Body Location: Anterior side of forearm (lower arm)
