3. Guided Reading • Strategic reading approach that encompasses a variety of skills • Reading levels are developmental and determined by county established benchmark levels

4. Guided Reading • Reading group books will be brought home nightly to practice fluency. Please be sure to return the book the next day. • Students learn at a different pace; therefore, we continually assess students for flexible grouping.

7. Research has shown that children do not transfer performance on “traditional spelling tests” to everyday writing. Children learn best by active involvement and practice with the task at hand. Words Their Way allows them to see word and letter patterns for themselves.

The slip should be signed and returned with the completed homework.

Helping at home… • Establish a homework routine • Be consistent with time and place • Please check homework before returning it to school • Reinforce student responsibility • Gold homework folder in backpack every night and Friday folders returned • Homework should be completed in spelling journal or on math worksheet • Communicate with the teacher if there is a concern.

FYI… • Please label coats, sweaters, lunch boxes, etc… • Please send lunch money in a ziploc baggie labeled with name • Please report to the office upon entry into the school for any reason. • Please make sure your child eats a substantial breakfast! • We are looking forward to 2 curriculum-related field trips. Chaperones will be selected via a lottery system. For safety purposes, only chaperones are able to join us.

33. FYI… • Please do not send any birthday invitations to be distributed at school. Birthdays may be celebrated with non-edible items (stickers, class book, pencils, etc) for each classmate. • Remember your child’s supplies may need to be replenished as the year progresses (especially glue sticks). • Please see your child’s teacher for classroom wish list items.
