  1. Public Sector Group Meeting 4th October 2013Break Out Session Feedback Group 2 Jenny Obee Does your records programme really apply those retention rules to all electronic records across the authority, or to any of it? Can we take simplified retention rules and apply them to electronic content?

  2. What our Group Said Part 1: Applying retention rules to electronic records ……. Retention Schedule is not applied yet Gaps identified within theory and practice. In order to bridge the gap require a practical method of application, daily, weekly or annual event Resource is limited, slips down the list of priorities Big bucket approach maybe for SharePoint/EDRMS but more difficult to manage shared drives and emails What about records that are to be retained permanently? How do we deal with this electronically?

  3. Continued………. Part 2: Can we take simplified retention rules and apply them to electronic content? • System design cannot be onerous – A simple application with a limited number of retention rules • Review shared drives which are now “orphaned” delete delete delete………. • Delete emails after 12 months? • How do we address dealing with legacy systems? • A review process is always seen as a overhead, we need senior management buy in – Hard to obtain. Records Management is still Alive!
