Website functionality • Configure website > website functionality • Advanced options now include: • Stylesheets (& Javascript) • Banner(text or image, every page, between menu & main content) StudyNet New Features
MAPS Integration: Skills • A skills list can be associated with the Module • Skills that will be developed or assessed • Configure website > Update this module’s skill list • Listed in: • Learning Resources > Generic Skills StudyNet New Features
MAPS Integration: Skills (cont) • A skills list can be SPECIFICALLY associated with Teaching Resources, Assignments and Modules • Students prompted to reflect on this list when they post an assignment – these reflections are stored in their MAPS area • Assignment receipts & quiz results stored in MAPS area, maintaining a skills development record • Investigating Google Search to allow resources tagged with specific skills to be identified StudyNet New Features
MAPS: Reflective Questions • Single text entry ‘reflective questions' may be embedded within teaching resources or folder separators • Aim: to prompt students to think about their personal development • Creates an entry in student’s MAPS blog StudyNet New Features
Module Websites • Verification that user still logged in before submission • New navigation bar at the top of each page • Simple editor available in most screens • Note: Not supported in Opera or Safari • Facility to add MAPS question to any page • Facility to create a list of skills which will be developed during the module. In future, this will feed into MAPS StudyNet New Features
Staff Registration on Modules • Self-Registration is back • Module Leaders emailed when a member of staff registers • Option to reduce the user's access role to reader • New modules (not previously run) require a Module Leader to be assigned via the module planner before self-registration is enabled • All members of staff are carried across from previous year for existing modules StudyNet New Features
Teaching Resources • Teaching resources carried across from previous year, but hidden initially • “Select all” function to quickly unhide documents • Shortcuts • Allow resources to appear in multiple folders. • Smart Folders: • Facility to “tag” teaching resources • Used to create “virtual folders” of related information. StudyNet New Features
Teaching Resources (cont) • Create Resource form tidied up: • “Optional Settings” hidden initially • Demo + highlights on next slide • Skills list may be attached(forthcoming: Google search across websites) • Access levels • Allow controlled progression through resources; New monitoring options: • View list of students that have achieved an access level • View all resources assigned a particular level StudyNet New Features
Teaching Resources (cont) • General options • ‘open file’ : opens PDF files etc. immediately • Hide options • Size & subject switched off – leaving icon only • New simple editor • Code Snippet • Re-use notes across the module • Insert Maps question • Answers stored in Blog (private) StudyNet New Features
Quizzes • By default student names are revealed • Can still set to anonymous • Submissions now stored in MAPS area (student can see all results for all modules) • Will expand to measure skills (which are then stored as evidence in the MAPS profile) StudyNet New Features
Podcasting • New podcast area • Easy to add podcast • Easy for students to access • Students do NOT require MP3 player (can still access audio normally) StudyNet New Features
Resource Library • Podcast resources are identified by an ipod icon • Tools to easily add or remove items from your podcast • Resources uploaded directly into teaching resources using the 'media element' now appear in the resource library and can be added to your podcast • A podcast section has been added so students can get access to the resources in your podcast without having to subscribe. • Feed icons appear in the menu to help students find the link to your podcast or “what's new” RSS feeds StudyNet New Features
Assignments • Set assignment screen: • Guidance notes for at risk times: • Janet plus clashes with ALL assignments hand in dates • Skills assessed: select skills which are then fed into MAPS • Assign default limit to submission, e.g. submit up to 2 MB size. StudyNet New Features
Class Discussions • Class discussions can be split into smaller fora • Simple editor available to students • You can choose to have your forum default to a linear or threaded mode (students can override this in their own personal settings). • Show conversation option. Shows the posts in the thread which directly relate to the current item in the thread StudyNet New Features
Group Manager • New streamlined layout • When viewing multiple groups, new posts indicated against each group • New facility to assign students to groups. Additions and removals can be implemented from same screen by (un)ticking boxes StudyNet New Features
StudyNet Groups • Similar to module groups BUT • UH wide • Has blogs, planner, files, resources etc. • AND wiki technology…. StudyNet New Features
MAPS (staff) • Website Manager option • Module website > MAPS > New Entry • Can add module-specific reflective questions that feed into the MAPS process • Programme / faculty level MAPS forms should be considered as an alternative StudyNet New Features
