Procedures for Aiding a Parent with Contact Manager for SchoolMessenger • In the event that a parent calls the office of your school, with a request for a change of what phones are called from SchoolMessenger, the first response is that the parent needs to manage his/her contacts via PowerSchool’s Parent Portal (refer to website for instructions). • If the parent does not have a Parent Portal account, then give instructions on creating this account.
If the parent does not have access to a computer and/or internet, and insists on a change, offer these options: • Remove the number from PowerSchool (or change it). • A staff member follows these steps to make the change for the parent: • From the start screen of PowerSchool, click on “School Messenger” from the bottom of the left menu bar. • Click on System>Contacts. Search on the student with name or Student Number. Enter. From the search results, click on the appropriate Unique ID. • Click Edit, and OK at the warning dialog box. • Do not change any phone numbers from this screen! All phone number changes are to be made in PowerSchool, not SchoolMessenger. • Check or uncheck the boxes next to the phone numbers and/or email addresses for: • Non School Hrs Emergency – at least one number must be checked! • School Hrs Emergency – at least one number must be checked! • Attendance, General and Survey – edit at the parent’s request. • Save.
