  4. Purposes of Non-Fiction • To Explain • To Entertain • To Persuade • To Inform • *Most titles can fit several purposes* • For example, a book can inform & persuade at the same time!

  5. To Explain • Tells or Teaches you how to do something • “How To”

  6. To ENTERTAIN • Provide an escape • Something to do for fun during free time

  7. To Persuade • Attempts to change your view/opinion about something

  10. Biography/Autobiography • Narrative of a person's life. A true story about a real person. • Biography – 3rd Person (He, She, They) • Autobiography – 1st Person (I, We)

Memoir/Diary https://youtu.be/vjAmPnXq9Dc • Memoir- A collection of memories that an individual writes about that took place in their life. • Diary- a book in which one keeps a daily record of events and experiences. • Diary of a Wimpy Kid is fiction…Anne Frank is real What’s the difference??? A diary is a record of (unrelated) events in one's life. A memoir selects specific events or scenes and weaves them into a story.
