  3. Overview • Mount Wachusett Community College will present an overview of their emergency planning and preparedness policies and procedures. Focusing on improved communications and employee training, they will provide information about their emergency contact system, and facilities’ safety manual. The panel will present the college-wide planning process and important lessons learned over the past two years as they developed, tested and put into practice new policies and procedures.

So What Happens When Something Happens? • December-February, 2007-2008 – Snow Closings • Lesson learned: Think about public transportation users • March-April 2008 – Non-specific threatening graffiti on main campus • Lesson learned: Pre-prepare broadcast messages to suit different “emergencies”. • Lessons learned: Prepare for “caller triage” and “opt out” requests. Keep database and “sending number” up-to-date. • April 2008 – Specific threatening graffiti on main campus • Lesson learned: Be prepared to call in local authorities for assistance. • May 15, 2008 – MWCC Commencement • Lesson learned: Non-emergencies are the best way to practice emergency procedures.
