  2. Goals for Students • To acquire skills to be active learners; • To become independent learners and effective collaborators; • To enhance students’ self-respect and self-knowledge; • To become critical thinkers.

  3. Supplies • 1 ½ Binder • Dividers – 5 • Loose leaf paper • Pens/pencils

  4. Curriculum 7th Grade • Narrative Unit • Genre Study: Comparison of historical fiction and historical account of the same event • Compare and Contrast: Text and multimedia version of the same story • Genre Study: Dramatic Poetry • Informational Unit • Compare and contrast: Two authors with different viewpoints on the same topic • Compare and contrast: Text version and broadcast/spoken version of the same topic • Argumentative Unit • Reading and Writing: Cause and Effect Essay and Analysis Essays • Visual/Media Literacy Unit • Creating and Analyzing: Magazine covers/Newspaper headlines and Movie Trailers

  5. Grading • Tests: 30% • Quizzes: 25% • Writing Assignments: 30% • Classwork: 5% • Homework: 10%
