Olmekerne (ca. 1500-600 kr.) betragtes som Mellemamerikas moderkultur. • Den klassiske periode: 300 f.kr.-900 e.kr. • Tidlig klassisk: 300 – 50 f.kr.Domineret af zapotekerne omkring Oaxaca. Her grundlægges Teotihuacan. Tidlige mayabyer grundlægges (bl.a. El Mirador, Guatemala) • Protoklassisk: 50 f.kr. – 250 e.kr.Solens og månens pyramider i Teotihuacan opføres • Klassisk tid: 250-900 e.krTeotihuacan samt mayalavlandet oplever deres storhedstid • Postklassik tid: 900-1520Mayabyer om ChichénItzá og Uxmal byggesTula bliver et nyt imperiumAztekerne bygger deres rige
