  4. God led them by a pillar of cloud by day

  5. and a pillar of fire by night

  6. Exodus 14 • God’s plan to display his glory • Hardened hearted Pharaoh pursues Israelites

  7. Israelites panic – better to be slaves in Egypt than corpses in the wilderness • Exodus 14:13 13But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the LORD rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. • Exodus 14:18 18When my glory is displayed through them, all Egypt will see my glory and know that I am the LORD!”

  8. The Red Sea • The Lord opened a path and Israelites went through on dry ground

  9. Egyptian soldiers are consumed by the sea • A testimony of the power of God on behalf of his people • (Joshua 2:10) ""For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt…”

  10. (Hebrews 11:29) "By faith they passed through the Red Sea as though they were passing through dry land; and the Egyptians, when they attempted it, were drowned."

  12. Our Slavery - dominion • Colossians 1:13 Delivered from the domain, power, dominion of darkness • Slaves to sin Romans 6:12-23 • Set free but still acting like slaves

  13. Our Pillar of Cloud and Fire • The angel of God (Exodus 14:19) • Movement – guidance • Illumination – revelation • Separation – protection

  14. Romans 8:14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. • John 16:13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.

Our Red Sea – the display of God’s power • The place where the enemy perceives you are vulnerable to his attack • Putting you back into slavery • Can only be overcome by the power of God • The way that God displays his glory • Exodus 14:13 But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the LORD rescue you today.

  16. 1 Corinthians 10:13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.

  18. Our deliverance – our escape • Psalms 60:11 – 12 Oh, please help us against our enemies, for all human help is useless. 12With God’s help we will do mighty things, for he will trample down our foes.

  19. Psalms 136:13 - 15 13Give thanks to him who parted the Red Sea.  His faithful love endures forever. 14He led Israel safely through, His faithful love endures forever. 15 but he hurled Pharaoh and his army into the Red Sea. His faithful love endures forever.

  21. Reflection Time • Have I made my exodus from the dominion of darkness? • Am I following the cloud or am I just blowing my own smoke? • In what ways do I remain vulnerable to the attack of the enemy? • What is my way of escape? • Is my song a witness to the work of the Lord?

  22. Exodus 14:13 But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the LORD rescue you today.
