Why European BIBFRAME Workshop? • The aim of the European BIBFRAME Workshop is to be a forum for sharing knowledge about practice of, production with, and planning of BIBFRAME implementation. • We want to bring together people working in the transition from MARC to Linked Data using the BIBFRAME model and related tools.

  3. Why moving from MARC? • 2000ff user interfaces were made FRBR alike – and moving from cataloguing cards to internet : discovery HAS changed • So: our ”back offices” make something different from what ”front office” need • So format - and rules - shall support modern discovery = need to be entity based

Agenda and Formats • September 17, 2018: TutorialThe aim of the European BIBFRAME Tutorial 2018 was to introduce the BIBFRAME data model and the current status of BIBFRAME implementations: practical examples of conversion and of BIBFRAME editors. • September 18 and 19, 2018: WorkshopLonger presentations and shorter lightning talks followed by discussion. Breakout topics were based on themes that came out during the presentations. At the end of each day a wrap up session summarized the discussions.

RDA discussion • At the workshop was discussed the connection between RDA and BIBFRAME with the miss of mapping between rules and format • After the workshop the Organizer Group addressed a letter to the RSC encouraging clarification of the connection between RDA and BIBFRAME and proposing a WG to develop at set of guidelines for representation of RDA in BIBFRAME • The answer question marked the difference between the formal RDA organization and the informal BIBFRAME workshop – and RDA as independent of formats .
