Swellpacker® Cable SystemTECHNOLOGY BRIEF Taylor Stein Global Sales and Marketing Manager
What is it? • The Swellpacker® Cable system is a swellable type packer with a spliceless cable feed-through. When activated in oil, water or a combination of both, the Swellpacker® Cable system seals the annulus in cased or open hole to provide a reliable pressure barrier. • Unlike conventional feed-through packers, the Swellpacker® Cable system allows for multiple control lines, flatpacks or even tubing to pass through the element without the use of cutting, splicing and testing the lines.
How it will Benefit you • Save drastically on installation time by • Eliminating cutting of lines • Eliminating splicing of lines • Eliminating testing of lines • Increase signal integrity in fiber-optic installations • Reduce potential weak points created when splicing
Why it will Help • Swellpacker® Cable system uses proven technology of Swellpackerisolation system to provide reliable seal in open and cased hole applications. • Activates without pumping, uses no moving parts and does not require manipulating the string. • Once exposed to a swelling fluid, seals around cables or flatpacks and out against the open hole or casing to form a seal. • Reliability and simplicity helps operators fully realize the benefits of feed-through applications.
Unique Features • Multiple spliceless feed-throughs • High-pressure design for up to 10,000 psi applications • Seals in irregular shaped holes
Where it Will Work • Open and cased hole intelligent completions • Oil, water and gas environments • Environments up to 10,000 psi and 400°F • Multiple required feed- through lines
Challenges Addressed • By combining the simplicity and efficiency of swellable technology with features of Swellpacker® Cable system, operators can mitigate the challenges associated with feed-through packer applications such as: • Long and costly installation times • Openhole reliability • Compromised signal strength
When it’s Helpful • Openhole intelligent completions: allows for spliceless feed-through of control lines and flatpacks while providing reliable zonal isolation • Distributed Temperature Survey (DTS): eliminates the need to cut and splice fiber-optic cables, maintaining the integrity of the signal even with a high number of isolation points • Scale inhibitor injections: allows for the spliceless feed through of chemical injection tubes for prevention of scale buildup
