When? • The time of troubles was the period of time between the death of Feodor Ivanocich, the last tsar of of the Rurik dynasty, in 1598 and the beginning of the Romanov Dynasty in 1613. One-third of the population died of a famine in 1601-1603.
What? • The Time of Troubles was a period in which Russia went through famine, civil uprisings, imposters, and usurpers.
Why? • Boris Gudonov was elected as Feodor’s successor, but his reign was unsuccesful. • Poor harvest caused famine. • It was rumored that Feodor’s supposedly dead brother, Dmitiri, was actually alive
Who? • The Time of troubles focused mainly around Dmitri, Feodor Ivanovich’s dead brother. Rumors spread that he was still alive because of Godunov’s poor reign. • A man claiming to be Dmitri tried to claim his right to the throne in 1603.
How? • Bad weather and poor harvest caused a famine • False Dmitris caused controversey • The Poor reign of Boris Gudonov made the people upset
