Mission Statement Liverpool Hope University’s mission is to educate the whole person in mind, body and spirit and as an integral part of Liverpool Hope, Plas Caerdeon is a premier example of outdoor education. The Centre provides: • a quality educational service to Liverpool Hope and the wider community • added value both within and outside the curriculum • inspiration and challenge to the whole person a location to develop intellectually, physically and spiritually • a professional and valued service to its users
History • Built in 1850 • Has panoramic views of the surrounding terrain • Donated to Hope University by the Sisters of Notre Dame • Has undergone a £360,000 re-investment programme, which has seen the renovation of the stone Manor House and two cottages situated in the landscaped grounds. • Included among its many famous visitors is renowned scientist Charles Darwin, who stayed at Plas Caerdeon in 1869 to work on a revision of his famous publication 'The Origin of Species'.
Where is it? • Plas Caerdeon is situated between Dolgellau and Barmouth on the A496 • From the north west, Caerdeon can be reached by the M53/A55/A5/A494 via Bala in two hours.
Safety • PlasCaerdeon is fully licensed by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA). • AALA also responsible for regular inspections of the Centre and equipment, and the monitoring of instructional staff. • All staff fully qualified, experienced and security checked
