Dancing is a huge part of Cuban culture. These are some of the dances and folk songs brought from Spain and Africa. • Zapateo • Fandango • Retambico • Minuet • Gavotte • Mazurka • Waltz
There was also a surge of Chinese immigrants into Cuba in the 19th century. They brought instruments like the corneta china and other reeded instruments to the island.
The African slaves who came to the island brought one of the biggest parts of their culture with them: percussive instruments and ideas about rhythm. At first, there were about 50 types of drums.
