Dolphins Dolphins evolved from an animal called Indohyus There are some cases where they saved lives of humans in the ocean Their blood chemistry can teach us how to treat diabetes in humans Introduction The reason why I chose this animal was because I’ve heard that they saved people in the army that were drowning because they are able to feel vibrations of their heart beat. This however, is not proven true.
Evolution • Dolphins and hippos have a common ancestor, Indohyus • This animal evolved to live on land after it lived in the ocean • Hippos became herbivores • Dolphins remained carnivores, developing fins and a great body structure for swimming
Social Animals • Dolphins have saved humans from sharks by swimming in pods until the sharks swim away. They stay near them in the water until the humans are saved • This is because they are social animals, willing to protect other animals from danger
Blood chemistry • When dolphins are in a fasting period they have the same amount of glucose in their blood as someone with diabetes • Their bodies maintain high levels of glucose when they fast (or sleeping) to regulate their bodies
Treating diabetesconclusion • We can compare the blood chemistry of dolphins to someone’s blood who has diabetes to learn more about this disease and eventually be able to treat it in humans
