Key Focus Areas 1. Tourism Growth and Economy: • Where we are now: - Investment value estimated at R10 billion. - Total employment standing at 33 000(6 479). - Database standing at 1 215 tourist products.
Key Focus Areas 1. Tourism Growth and Economy: • What to be done: - Increase investment in the industry. (especially private sector investment)
Key Focus Areas 2. Visitor experience and the brand: • Where we want to be: - Destination that attracts and retains (more) tourists
Key Focus Areas 2. Visitor experience and the brand: • Where we are now: - Establishments range 2 – 5 stars. - Some world acclaimed 5 star facilities. - Most tourists facilities are accredited. - Still not world class (Tourist services).
Key Focus Areas 2. Visitor experience and the brand: • What to be done: - Build tourism skills and expertise. - Enhance schools tourism curriculum.
Key Focus Areas 3. Sustainability and good government: • Where we want to be: - Spread tourism benefit throughout the province (geographic, seasonal and rural spread).
Key Focus Areas 3. Sustainability and good government: • Where we are now: - High concentration of tourism activities in the eastern part of the province. - More investment is in urban areas. - Rural tourism potential (remains).
