  2. Significant Figures of The Black Panther Party

  3. Huey P. Newton • Huey was a co-founder of the Black Panther Party, and was a major African-American political and urban activist. He had a long series of confrontations with law enforcement, including several convictions. In 1989 he was shot and killed in Oakland, California.

  4. Bobby Seale • Robert George “Bobby” Seale was the second co-founder of the Black Panther Party. Seale, much like Huey Newton, had several run-ins with law enforcement, and was arrested and charged with conspiracy to create a riot outside of the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, IL.

  5. 10 Point Program • These program was made to describe what the Black Panthers wanted to achieve. • Most of the 10 points were put in place to bring equality in parts of America’s society like Employment, Housing, Education, ext.

  6. Impact on Civil Rights Era • They encouraged other African Americans to fight back and defend themselves against aggression and racism. • Made African Americans seem violent and dangerous to already racist people. • Created programs that fed poor and hungry African Americans. • They made African Americans and other minorities feel safer.

  7. FBI Activities • The FBI did not like the rebellious ways of the Black Panther. • The FBI spent millions of dollars to take down the party.

  8. The Demise of the Black Panthers • During the 1970’s the party started to become more aggressive, hurting their reputation. • Soon this new aggression in the party brought them to their demise. • By the 1980 the party was down to 27 memebers.
