  2. Testing God Trying God’s Way Give and it will be given to you • Luke 6:38 (ESV) “give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” • we receive by giving • give and you will get back

  3. The Gain of Giving • Athlete gains in strength • Investor gains by investing • Farmer reaps if he sows “It is more blessed to give than to receive” Acts 20:35b The Giver is more happy than the receiver !

Testing God God’s Rules about Giving… Love and Kindness Love begets love Eph.4:32 “And be kind to one another” Time Worship – study - serving Matt. 6:33 “seek first the kingdom of God” Talents Christianity is my vocation - work to make a living Matt. 25:29 “will have an abundance” Possessions To be used for God’s glory 1 Cor. 16:1-2 - give as we have prospered

For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. Galatians 6:7-8 “But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.” 2 Corinthians 9:6 Harvest stingily With blessing Plentiful, generous

  6. Testing God God’s Rules about Giving… Giving is God’s way of living The worth of our life will be measured by what we gave to others, a glass of water, encouragement, a helping hand, sympathy, truth, or a kind word . We all have something to give. Try giving yourself away.

Testing God Trying God’s Way Humble Self and God will Exalt "For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” Luke 14:11 God lowers those who are haughty He raises those who are humble “Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.” Proverbs 16:18

Parable of Pharisee and Publican Luke 18:9-14 - Two men went into temple to pray Pharisee - Prayer of Pride Thought about self Not like other men Listed good things Confessed virtues Publican - Prayer of Humility Stood away Confession of sins Made no excuses Asked for mercy We must be Humble - lowliness of mind Humility is a recognition of our dependence upon God.

  9. “For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.” Romans 12:3 James 4:10 “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” God will exalt those who are humble

  11. Testing God Trying God’s Way Turn the Other Cheek “But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.” Matthew 5:39 (ESV) Slap is insult Sometimes better to suffer John 18:19-23 - Jesus was slapped

  12. Turn the Other Cheek "Resist not him that is evil." Do not oppose violence with violence Romans 12:14-21 Bless those who persecute you Do not repay evil with evil Do not avenge yourselves - belongs to God Heap coals of fire on head of enemy “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.” v. 21

  13. Testing God “The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy;” Psalms 111:7 (ESV) “As for God, His way isperfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.” Psalms 18:30 (NKJV) tried Complete Try God’s Way It works !
