Benefits of Finnishrailway corridor • Well located ports in Southern Finland • Modern port facilities • Free capacity available • Good infrastructure at ports enabling efficient cargo handling & cargo flows. Variety of value adding services avalable • Smooth border formalities between Finland – Russia(Customs, other,..) • Enough capacity in Finnishrailways

Benefits of Finnishrailway corridor • Upcoming investments of RZD in October railway area • Separating cargo trains and passenger traffic between St. Petersburg and Vyborg will increase capacity for freight traffic • New agreement for interconnection may increase competition and reduce costs in the future • Tariffs in Russia likely to put on hold, no increase in 2014 • Change in Finnish Fairway due system wil increase competition and cost efficiency

  4. Areas of improvement of Finnishrailway corridor • Low speed in the rail network in Russia • Lack of locomotives • Network repair and constuction ongoing • Proficit of wagons & high percentage of empty runs makes infrastrucure busy. Priority of block & container trains.

  5. New agreement for interconnecting rail traffic will open the operation for competition • Agreement updated to comply with todays’ EU legistelation, not yet signed, most likely coming to force from 2015 • Only operators from EU area can offer the traffic services. • Interconnecting rail traffic can be operated by several operators in the future. • The new agreement will open the service for competition. Today it is a monopoly of Finnish Railways.
