Tunisia Anti-American rallies spread to Tunisia over a video of denigrating the Prophet Muhammad. Protestors stormed the American Embassy. At least 3 protestors were killed and 28 wounded.
Algeria The Algerian government declared that the ruling party had strengthened their rule in parliamentary elections. Most Algerians boycotted the elections.
Egypt Two of Egypt’s most powerful forces, the military establishment and the Muslim Brotherhood, the Islamist group, went head to head while Egypt was in transition to a democracy. People are beginning to think that there is a counterrevolution going on.
Libya The Libyan army and allied militias have taken control over important buildings in the former Gaddafi stronghold of Bani Walid as Libya marked the first anniversary of its "liberation" from Muammar Gaddafi.
Saudi Arabia The United States has increased it’s dependence on Saudi Arabia for oil beginning in August 2012. Saudi Arabia has been an oil bearing power house starting at the Cold War until unrest broke out in Tunisia and spread across the region.
Jordan Angry protests erupted over a planned 10 percent increase in gas prices. King Abdullah quickly cancelled the increase after a weekend of protests and after 89 of Parliament’s 120 members signed a statement of no confidence in the prime minister over the increase of gas.
Yemen Yemen is a poor country that has been in turmoil since January of 2011 with an uprising over the president, Ali Abdullah Saleh. In February 2012, the vice president, Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, was elected as the new president but Saleh was still a considerable influence amongst the people of Yemen.
Syria Effected by the Tunisian revolution, residents of a small southern city took to the streets to protest the torture of students who had put up anti-government graffiti. By fall of 2012, the country was in a full blown civil war.
