Get Encaustic Medium Online | Ceracolors Medium for Sale Ceracolors is water-soluble beeswax-based paint for professional artists providing a wide range of painting techniques from thick impastos that can be sculpted to thin watercolor-like washes. They are fast-drying colors suitable for all supports used for encaustic painting, yet they do not require any special tools and heated instruments. Use any brush suitable for water-based paint.
Ceracolors Fluid Medium A general purpose liquid medium useful for creating glazes, extending colors, and increasing translucency. Has a unique property that promotes flow and leveling. Ceracolors Mediums, Gels and Pastes offer artists unlimited control of Ceracolors water-soluble wax colors. Use mediums to control transparency, viscosity & consistency. Ceracolors Mediums can be thought of as colorless wax paints, as they are composed of the same or similar waxes as are Ceracolors paints. They are the “glue” or binder that dry to form continuous, durable films.
Ceracolors Retarder Additive Add Retarder to Ceracolors to increase the open time, for “wet-in-wet” techniques and to reduce skinning on the palette. Do not add excess Retarder or paint will not dry. White Beeswax Pure beeswax is used for making painting mediums and encaustic painting. Oldest known pigment binder. Beeswax is used as a protective coating (varnish) in painting, as a paint binder, and as a stabilizer in oil colors. It is usually available in the form of cakes, pastilles or prills, either bleached white or in its natural yellowish color. It melts between 62–65° C.
Candelilla Wax Excellent plasticizer with good chemical stability, water repellency and has a melting point higher than beeswax. It can be substituted wherever carnauba wax is used. A wax derived from the leaves of the small Candelilla shrub native to northern Mexico and the southwestern United States, Euphorbia cerifera and Euphorbia antisyphilitica, from the family Euphorbiaceae. It is yellowish-brown, hard, brittle, aromatic, and opaque to translucent.
Castor Wax Castor Wax is a non-hygroscopic organic derivative of castor oil. Use as a rheology additive in oil and alkyd paint, to add thixotropic body and prevent oil separation. Does not react with pigments and vehicles and does not detract from the durability of paint. Assists in the stabilization of water-in-oil emulsions. Add 1–2% of total pigment weight. Castor wax exhibits relatively high solubility in hydrocarbon solvents (such as mineral spirits). It is insoluble in water and alcohol, but is readily soluble in benzene and common organic non-polar solvents when warm.
