THE WIDOW & THE JUDGE(Luke 18:1-8) • “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man. And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary…’”
DIGGING DEEPER • Jesus told about a judge who “neither feared God nor respected man.” Did the judge in the movie fit that description? How? • The widow symbolizes anyone who is weak and needy. How did the movie show her weakness? • Why does the judge finally agree to hear the widow’s case? • How is God similar to the judge in the movie? How is he different?
PAIR & SHARE • How many minutes per week do you… • Pray • Watch TV • What name for God do you most often use when you are praying to Him by yourself? • Read Luke 11:9-13 and discuss: How should this passage of Scripture affect the way we pray? • Write down one big prayer request. Share this with your partner and pray with each other.
WHAT DOES JESUS WANT US TO LEARN FROM THIS PARABLE? • No matter how weak and weary we are, we should keep on praying and never give up • If persistent requests have this effect on a wicked judge, what effect will persistent requests have on the righteous and merciful Judge? • “I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily.” (Lk. 18:8) • Pray with faith…pray with faith…PRAY WITH FAITH!
