Graphing for anyone. Types of data. Things to remember about all graphs. Title Axis titles Axis labels/scales (including units) Make it clear – don’t use fancy fonts, crazy colours. NO 3D-graphs (they distort the picture) When a scale doesn’t start at zero, use a “broken” axis . Bar Graphs.

Things to remember about all graphs • Title • Axis titles • Axis labels/scales (including units) • Make it clear – don’t use fancy fonts, crazy colours. NO 3D-graphs (they distort the picture) • When a scale doesn’t start at zero, use a “broken” axis
Bar Graphs • Discrete data or qualitative data. (no measured data) • Gaps between bars (like jail bars) • Labels underneath the bars (beside horizontal bars) • “Stacked” bars are ok • Horizontal or Vertical bars are ok • Used to show quantities or frequencies
Histograms • Continuous data ONLY (measured stuff) • Bars are touching • Labels on the division between the bars • “Stacked” bars are ok • Used to show quantities or frequencies
Pie graphs • Shows the proportion that each part occupies • Can only show information about one variable • Calculate sector size : • 1st quarter sales × 360 • total sales
Strip Graphs • Y10 Eye Colours Red Blue Yellow • Shows the proportion that each part occupies • Can only show information about one variable
