  2. Requirements • 12-15 minute presentation • Near perfect attendance

  3. Course Objectives:you will: • Gain experience in public speaking • Learn through preparing a presentation that will also be informative to other students • Field questions concerning the topic of your presentation • Provide feedback to aid other students improve presentation skills.

  4. Presentations • Topic of your choice • related to genetics • 485 projects • lab/computer techniques • specific gene defects • human, animal, plant or microbe • history; persons or events • ethical issues

  5. Visual Aids • Powerpoint/Computer • USB Flash is easiest • Internet connection can be made available • Slide projector • Must notify well ahead and set up before class! • Overhead; always available

  6. GRADING • All Start with 101 points! • Subtract  2N points for N classes missed • 0 absences ≤ 100 • 1 absence ≤ 98 • 2 absences ≤ 94 • 3 absences ≤ 86 etc. • Subtract 2 if absent when selected to make peer evaluation • Subtract 1 for each speaker missed

  7. Grading, ctd. • Peer/Prof evaluations: • 6 categories • 0-5 points per category • average of at least 4 evaluators (including me) • maximum loss = 30 points • evaluator “tips” will be provided anonymously

  8. Makeups permitted for excused absences only • Makeups require written and oral or slide report from an outside seminar
